Cleanup underway in Midwest after several tornadoes rip through area

KOKOMO, Indiana (KGO) -- Cleanup efforts are underway in the Midwest after several tornadoes ripped through the nation's heartland.

Hundreds of people are now without homes.

No one was killed and the dozen injuries reported across Indiana and Ohio are only minor.

Aerial views show Konomo, Indiana, the hardest hit town. An F3 tornado hit with winds ranging from 136 to 165 miles per hour.

The widespread destruction means hundreds of people are without homes. People are in temporary shelters, but that number could increase because they are still without power.

Indiana Governor and GOP vice presidential candidate Mike Pence toured the damaged area on Wednesday, where he saw homes destroyed and a Starbucks that was leveled.

Luckily, everyone inside made it out alive.

In 2013, Kokomo was hit by a tornado that took a similar path, so it's déj vu for many there.

In total, eight tornadoes hit the state of Indiana and the storms also rolled through Ohio.
