PHOTOS: Hurricane Maria pummels the Caribbean

Hurricane Maria slammed into Puerto Rico as a "potentially catastrophic" Category 4 storm that was set to become the most powerful to strike the US territory in almost 90 years.

On Monday, the storm ploughed into Dominica, St. Croix and the eastern Caribbean causing what Dominica's Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit called "mind-boggling" destruction.
