Overnight the snow really started coming down at the Summit on Highway 17 in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Just after midnight, the CHP closed 17 in both directions for about 45 minutes at Vine Hill Road. Eventually, they reopened when they said they had enough plows and equipment up to keep the roads clear. The morning commute appeared to go relatively smoothly considering the conditions.

Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it Snow! The cold weather has made for a very exciting morning in the Bay Area.

The storm created a gorgeous blanket for Mount Diablo-picturesque snow in an area that doesn't see it very often.

Rangers closed the road leading to the top of the mountain temporarily because of icy conditions early this morning. But just after 9:30 a.m., rangers opened the road and the fun got underway. Some tried to sled down hills on cardboard boxes while others engaged in all-out snowball fights.
