SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- On Tuesday a jury sided with a whistleblower who accused a garbage company of ripping off San Francisco taxpayers.
The city will receive most of the $1.3 million verdict.
A former Recology supervisor discovered the company inflated the numbers on how many tons of waste was being recycled each year.
Recology receives yearly bonuses from City Hall for diverting trash away from landfills.
Recology plans to appeal the jury's verdict.
The jury cleared Recology on other charges that recycling center employees ran a kickback scheme.
