Selena Gomez star of "Wizards of Waverly Place" shares how her show is giving teenagers some comic relief.

About "Wizards of Waverly Place":
Alex Russo and her brothers Justin and Max are a lot like the teens in their Manhattan neighborhood but they have one significant difference...they come from a long line of wizards and they must learn to hone their budding magical powers or soon risk losing them. Their dad Jerry was born with the same powers but was forced to relinquish them when he married their mom, a mortal named Theresa. Now, while their parents run the family business, Waverly Sub Station, the three siblings get into and out of comedic situations as they grapple with both their budding wizardly powers and typical teen challenges spanning school, friends and family.

About Selena Gomez:
Talented Selena Gomez plays middle child Alex Russo, the adventurous teenage daughter who inherits magical powers in "Wizards of Waverly Place."

Born July 22, 1992, in Dallas, Texas, Gomez, began her acting career at age seven, spending her birthday at an open casting call competing among thousands of other hopefuls for a role in the television series "Barney & Friends." Gomez was cast as a series regular for two seasons. In 2003, she was cast in "Spy Kids 3D."

In the summer of 2004, Disney Channel began a worldwide casting search for promising young talent. Three weeks after Selena's local audition in Dallas, she was invited to Los Angeles to meet Disney Channel programming executives. They cast Gomez in a pilot that year. The following year, she landed roles in two Disney Channel pilots and one became a series, "The Wizards of Waverly Place."

Among her recent credits are guest starring roles in Disney Channel's hit series "The Suite Life of Zack & Cody" and "Hannah Montana."

Newly relocated to Los Angeles, Gomez resides with her parents. Along with her film and television career, she is exploring opportunities in the music industry.
