Organizers of the event, to be held later this month as part of Child Support Awareness Month, have collected backpacks and school supplies from local businesses and organizations to give to children from low-income families, according to the county.
To be eligible for the supplies, children must be between the ages of 5 and 18, have an open case with the department, and be enrolled for the 2008-09 school year.
All of the bags and supplies collected will be given away at the Aug. 15 event, held at the Department of Child Support Services in San Jose.
