A person called and reportedly told police about a shooting at South 15th Street and Virginia Avenue around 9:50 p.m. Immediately after, a woman called and said the car was a half-mile further down Virginia Avenue at South Marina Boulevard, Simon said.
Police arrived and found the man dead inside the crashed car with a woman in her 30s in the passenger seat, uninjured, Simon said.
Simon said she might have been the woman who reported the shooting.
A gun was retrieved outside of the car in the same area, he said.
