Escamilla and Islas had been standing in a driveway when they were approached by two suspects wearing black handkerchiefs over the lower halves of their faces, police said.

The suspects fired several shots at Escamilla and Islas and then fled.

Escamilla was shot in the leg and was taken to a nearby hospital.

Islas suffered gunshot wounds to his back and leg and his forehead was grazed by a bullet. He was airlifted to another hospital, police said. Both men are expected to survive.
