Police were dispatched to the store at 1100 El Camino Real at about 3 p.m. on reports the fire extinguisher had gone off. Arriving officers found a hazy substance, which had been released from the extinguisher, throughout the store, police said.

Belmont-San Carlos fire officials responded and determined the substance was not hazardous, according to police. None of the estimated 100 customers or 30 employees requested medical attention.

An environmental health specialist also went to the store and the San Mateo County Health Department will inspect the business prior to its reopening Tuesday.

Affected merchandise is being thrown away and the earliest the store is expected to reopen is 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, police said.
