Witnesses wanted in Bayview shooting

San Francisco police spokeswoman Sgt. Lyn Tomioka said Emanuel Evans, 30, was walking from a home in the area of Wills Street and Middlepoint Road back to his car at about 10 p.m., when he was approached by an unknown suspect and shot several times.

He was taken to San Francisco General Hospital where he died. According to Tomioka, Evans had lived in the Bayview area, and had recently been released from prison and was on parole.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Inspector Gianrico Pierucci, Inspector Gavin McEachern or Inspector Robert Velarde of the Police Department's homicide detail at (415) 553-1145.

They may also call the department's anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444.

Evans' death was the 20th homicide reported by San Francisco police this year.
