As you know, it can be something of a scramble for seats. Southwest Airlines has a policy of giving no seat assignments and it helps keep fares low.

It also can cause a frenzy at boarding time. One group gets on first while others wait. Passengers wind up in a mad dash for the best seats and overhead bins.

Now Southwest is offering relief -- for a price. If you pay a $10 fee you get to board first, grab a good seat and Southwest gets a revenue boost in the process.
