Shortly before 4 p.m., a car began to circle the area of the Colonial Chapel at 2626 High St., where a viewing was being held for Erik Monrroy, police Officer Jeff Thomason said.

Monrroy was shot at about 12:08 a.m. on Sept. 2 in the 2500 block of Foothill Boulevard and later died at a local hospital, police said.

Thomason said it appears some people attending Monrroy's viewing this afternoon went outside and started shooting at the circling car. No one was injured in the shooting.

Officers who were in the neighborhood responded and detained more than 16 people for questioning about the shooting, Thomason said.

"We do believe it was gang-related," he said.
