It happened at around 3:30 p.m. at Contra Loma Regional Park in Antioch.
Lifeguards pulled the boy from the water and performed CPR. He was initially taken to Sutter Delta Memorial Hospital in very serious condition but was transported to Oakland Children's Hospital via helicopter.
The swimming area at the park has been closed.
