Stores may see canned pumpkin shortage

MORTON, IL

Nestle Baking is warning there may be a shortage of canned pumpkins on the grocery shelves this season. That's because heavy rains saturated the pumpkin fields in Morton, Illinois, ruining much of the crop there.

Nestle says the 2009 canned inventory of pumpkin will be smaller than planned.

Morton bills itself as the pumpkin capital of the world, although it may get a strong argument from the growers in Half Moon Bay.
