6 injured in head-on collision in Oakland

OAKLAND, CA

The crash occurred around 2:30 p.m.

Oakland police say a white Jeep Cherokee carrying three young people, possibly teenagers, was believed to be showboating, swerving back and forth on Foothill Boulevard. Coming in the other direction was an Acura carrying three passengers. The driver of the Acura tried to avoid the Jeep, but it instead resulted in a head-on collision.

"It appears there was some sort of sideshow-type activity involved which resulted in this collision," said Ofc. Michael Cardoza

Police suspect alcohol was a factor. They found a liquor bottle in the Jeep.

People inside the First New Jerusalem Baptist Church heard the impact and ran out to help.

"Some of the members went to the car tried to help to pull the people out," said Rev. Jerry Blackmon. "They were able to get some of the people out, but not all of them that were jammed in."

All six people have been taken to nearby hospitals. A female passenger who was in the Acura suffered serious life-threatening injuries.
