Consumers' Checkbook can help select flowers at the right price

May 5, 2010 5:26:32 PM PDT
Mother's day is this weekend and a lot of consumers will be buying flowers.

Consumers' Checkbook has been shopping and found prices vary widely and that is especially true with roses.

"The average price at the regular florist is about $50 to $55.00. We found that at supermarkets prices tend to be between $10 to $20. And Checkbook found that even street venders were even less expensive than that," says Robert Krughoff from Checkbook.

If you buy from a street vender, Checkbook says, buy early in the day so flowers aren't so beat up by the elements.

When buying from a florist, make sure the company is more than just an Internet or YellowBook listing.
