7 On Your Side reported last month that some rear projection models built in 2003 and 2004 were overheating and could possibly be a fire hazard.
Before the report aired, the agency told said it would look into the problem. Following the report, federal regulators say they have complaints and are now keeping track.
Sony had previously extended its warranty on select Grand Wega TVs for four years due to the issue.
