Caltrain will also shrink its weekday schedule from 90 to 86 trains. But it is trying something new that could please passengers: Baby Bullet trains on the weekend for the next three months - that can make the trip from San Jose to San Francisco in about an hour, cutting a half-hour off the current trip.
Caltrain will start the new year with fare hikes and service cuts. Saturday, all fares will rise by 25 cents a zone. That means a trip between San Francisco and San Jose will cost 75 cents more each way.
