Tracy to celebrate kids in honor of Sandra Cantu

TRACY, Calif.

Today would have been Cantu's 10th birthday. Sandra's family and local organizations are offering a full day of free activities for children 14 and under. The event is aimed at educating children to be careful and safe in their community.

A former Sunday school teacher is serving a life prison sentence for killing Cantu.

Times and places of events:

  • 10 a.m. to noon: West Valley Bowl, kids can enjoy a game (with shoes), 2365 East St.
  • 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Classic Gymnastics, open house, 3602 Mars Way, #113.
  • 2 to 4 p.m. Tracy Fire Department, meet local firefighters and "Pluggy" the robotic fire hydrant, 835 Central Ave.
  • 2 to 4 p.m. FTM Mortgage, fingerprinting and Sparkles the Clown, 44 West 10th St. There will also be a special cake ceremony and Tracy police Chief Janet Thiessen and Sandra's family members will speak to the community.
  • 3 to 6 p.m. Sweet Treat Yogurt Shoppe, 5-ounce yogurt cup and a visit from Doodles the clown, 2525 N. Tracy Blvd.
  • 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. Traditional Martial Arts Academy, personal safety clinic for children, 2505 N. Tracy Blvd.
  • 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. Flow Yoga Studio, yoga class for kids, 3602 Mars Way, #125.
  • 5 to 7 p.m. Cold Stone Creamery, one ice cream scoop, 1859 W. 11th St.
  • 7:15 to 7:45 p.m. Devotion2Motion Dance Academy, introductory dance class, 3602 Mars Way, #107.
