Hundreds of marines and sailors met Sunday near Lands End for the annual USS San Francisco ceremony.

The event honors the 100 sailors and seven Marines who were killed at the Battle of Guadalcanal during World War II. The USS San Francisco is a heavy cruiser that was built at the Mare Island Navy Yard and took part in the battle. It was the first major offensive by Allied Forces against Japan.

State Senator Leland Yee attended the service along with other politicians and veterans.
