Some Piedmont residents pay two tax bills

PIEDMONT, Calif.

The Oakland Tribune says residents on 26 streets are getting billed for taxes owed to both Oakland and Piedmont. It's because of a quirk in the way boundaries were drawn a century ago. About 100 homes sit in both Oakland and tiny Piedmont.

The assessor's office figures out how much of the property tax for each home should go to Oakland and how much to Piedmont. It depends on what percent of the property falls in each city.
