There was a pair of honors Tuesday for slain San Francisco Supervisor Harvey Milk, on what would have been his 82nd birthday.

In Long Beach, civic leaders broke ground on the new Harvey Milk Promenade Park. Milk's nephew, Stuart, attended Tuesday morning's ceremony. It's the first park ever to be named for the gay civil rights leader. And Tuesday afternoon in San Diego, officials named the first street after him.

California has declared May 22 Harvey Milk Day.
