Romo makes pitch for kids' immunizations

SAN FRANCISCO

Romo was joined by San Francisco and state health officials to talk about the importance of vaccinations. A big concern is whooping cough, which is at its highest level in 50 years. A California law requires seventh grades to get a Tdap booster vaccine before they enter school.

"Even though these children had pertussis shots when they were smaller, that immunity wears out over time and they need a booster shot around the seventh grade to keep themselves healthy and also to stop the spread of this disease in the community," said Dr. James Watt from the California Department of Public Health.

Children entering kindergarten also need to meet certain immunization requirements. Health officials are also urging pregnant women to get a Tdap booster shot if they weren't immunized before.
