Officer arrested on suspicion of domestic violence

RICHMOND, Calif.

Officer Thomas Hauschild, a 6-year veteran of the Richmond Police Department, was arrested Tuesday morning in Alameda County for an alleged domestic violence offense, Richmond police Lt. Bisa French said.

Dirk Manoukian, Hauschild's attorney, said Thursday that the officer surrendered early Tuesday morning after learning that authorities were looking for him.

He was booked into the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin and released later Tuesday on $60,000 bail.

Manoukian said the Alameda County District Attorney's Office is awaiting the findings of a sheriff's investigation before determining whether to file charges.

Hauschild is cooperating with that investigation, the attorney said.

Meanwhile, the officer has been placed on administrative leave from the Richmond Police Department, which is planning an internal investigation into his conduct, French said.

A spokesman for the Alameda County Sheriff's Office was not immediately available to comment on the case Thursday morning.
