Ten-year-old Kevin disappeared almost 29 years ago. He was last seen at a bus stop in San Francisco. Now we've learned the main person of interest in the disappearance of Kevin had a rap sheet and it included kidnapping.
ABC7 News was the first on scene Tuesday when police took jackhammers into a Masonic Avenue home. Our source told us that is where Dan Therrion lived. Those sources tell us he also went by the name "Kelly," that he was questioned by police six days after Kevin disappeared, and investigators never searched his backyard or basement at the time.
However, cold case investigators returned to that home this week and tore up the basement floor, looking for evidence that might link him to the young boy. The home is right across the street from Kevin's old school. Our sources say Therrien had a dog.
Earlier this week, the lead investigator in this cold case, Joe Toomey, told ABC7 reporter Vic Lee a key detail of what two witnesses saw way back in 1984.
"We had another adult witness telling that they saw Kevin in front of 1106 - 1108 Masonic. There was a white man there again in his 20s or 30s, and had a big, Great Dane black dog," said Toomey.
During this week's search, cadaver dogs located bones in the basement floor of that home. Police say those bones may be from an animal, but they sent them to a crime lab for analysis just to make sure.
According to a public records search, the man police are focusing on, Therrion, died five years ago in 2008.
