Social media helps Minnesota man recover stolen car

ST. PAUL, Minn.

Burglars broke into Jim Engelking's St. Paul home recently, going through every room, even taking food from his refrigerator.

Before they left, they grabbed his keys, and stole his Volvo sedan.

By chance, Jim's daughter, who's studying abroad in Belguim, was looking at a friend's Facebook page and noticed a photo.

"She posted this picture of a bad park job and there was this little red Volvo in it that looked exactly like my dad's car," daughter Katie Engelking said.

"I thought it was a picture she took an Antwerp and so I said, 'well not unless they put it on a really fast boat and moved it!'" Jim said. "And she said 'no, it's in Saint Paul!'"

Jim found his Volvo outside a Goodwill in St. Paul.

Even better, the thieves had cleaned the car and even left some new snowshoes in the trunk.

Jim says he now has a new appreciation for social media, as a crime fighting tool.
