The Give Forward site was set up by friends and family to raise $10,000 for Ashley Capuchin, who was holding her 3-month-old son and walking with her 17-year-old sister when they were struck just before 10 a.m. on Dec. 31.
The crash occurred just before 10 p.m. after Capuchin and her sister were in an argument with family members in a car, according to police.
The sisters got out of the car when it stopped on northbound Paseo Padre Parkway at Mowry Avenue.
Capuchin took her son with her by taking him out of the vehicle in his car seat, police said.
The sisters, with Capuchin toting the baby, started walking west across Paseo Padre Parkway in the middle of the block between Mowry and Capital avenues when they were hit by a pickup truck.
The truck was driven by a 64-year-old man who had been heading south on Paseo Padre Parkway. He stopped at the scene, police said.
Both sisters and the baby were taken to the hospital where Capuchin succumbed to her injuries, police said.
Her sister was treated for injuries not considered life-threatening and released, police said.
The 3-month-old baby, whom friends have said is named Salvador, was critically injured and was still at the hospital this week.
Since Capuchin's death, friends and family have rallied to raise money for a funeral service.
More than 180 donors gave $12,336 and reached the fundraising goal Tuesday.
According to an update this week on the website, any extra money raised will go toward Salvador's medical care.
