Around 3:10 p.m., the Coast Guard reported that a fire had been spotted on Winter Island, located north of Pittsburg in Suisun Bay, according to Contra Costa County Fire Protection District Capt. Robert Marshall.
Two columns of smoke and flames were reportedly seen on the island, he said.
The captain said there appears to be just one house on the island but no other major structures, and that the house does not appear to be threatened by the blaze.
He said the fire district would likely opt to let the fire burn out unless it is found to be threatening any structures. That process could take anywhere from a few hours to a few days, Marshall said.
The fire is under active investigation.
