It happened on 5th and Union Streets around 1:30 a.m.
Police say a white Mercedes-Benz plowed into a pillar that supports the BART tracks near the West Oakland station.
There were two people inside the car. The passenger was killed and the driver was taken to the hospital with significant injuries.
Police believe the driver may have been speeding. There was no damage to the BART column.
