Crews search for survivor after midair plane crash near Richmond

RICHMOND, Calif.

According to FAA Public Affairs Manager Ian Gregor, a single-engine Cessna 210 and a single-engine Hawker Sea Fury TMK 20 both took off from Half Moon Bay Airport. They collided in midair near the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge around 4:05 p.m. Sunday.

Gregor says the Cessna crashed into the water and the Hawker pilot was able to land safely at Eagle's Nest Airport in the town of Ione in Amador County around 4:45 p.m.

Each aircraft had one person onboard. The Hawker pilot was reportedly uninjured. The condition of the Cessna pilot is unknown.

Coast Guard Lieutenant Geannie Crump says four boats and a helicopter are searching for the planes and those inside in San Pablo Bay.

Crump says no one has been found in the water yet, but there is debris in the area of the crash.

Gregor says the FAA and NTSB will investigate the accident.
