Union City students win Samsung's Solve for Tomorrow contest

UNION CITY, Calif. (KGO) -- Students from James Logan High School in Union City are headed to the White House this week.

Members of the school's Automotive Technology Program have won Samsung's Solve for Tomorrow contest.

The contest challenges public school students in grades 6 through 12 to tap into their STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) skills to solve a problem in their community. The students learn through hands-on experience how STEM can be applied to real-world issues and making a difference.

They won $120,000 for designing an electric car solar charging station.

ABC7 News profiled the students last month.

They'll be guests at Wednesday's White House Science Fair and will hopefully show their invention to President Obama.
