WASHINGTON, D.C. (KGO) -- The National Consumer Law Center is calling for a ban on the collection of debts beyond the statute of limitations or the time that debt expires.
Those debts are known as "zombie debts."
The Federal Trade Commission estimates zombie debts make up 30 percent of all debts bought by debt buyers.
In California, the statute of limitations is four years on debt. That means you can no longer be taken to court for that debt.
