Firefighter injured during horse rescue near Castro Valley

Firefighters rescued a horse Friday after it fell 50 feet down an embankment near Castro Valley, according to the Alameda County Fire Department.

The incident was reported just before 12:30 p.m. near the 9500 block of Crow Canyon Road, according to fire officials.

One firefighter was injured in the rescue attempt, but the extent of the firefighter's injuries was not immediately available, according to the fire department.

A veterinarian is at the scene examining the horse.
