Rash of gun violence injures four in Antioch

ANTIOCH, Calif. (KGO) -- There has been an outbreak of gun violence in Antioch over the past 36 hours. Four people have been wounded in four separate shootings.

The shootings are all happening as police are on a furlough Friday, so information from police has not been available.

One of the shootings happened on Golf Course Road and Rockspring Way at 12:30 a.m. Friday.

ABC7 News learned the young man who was shot is an Iraq-Afghanistan war veteran with a family. He is currently in the intensive care unit. Witnesses say he was shot multiple times, including in the chest and was taken to a hospital.

"I was asleep in bed and I heard, it honestly didn't sound like gun shots, it sounded like somebody was hitting our fence with a bucket or something. It was more of a muffled sound, but it was a very loud you know kind of a bang, bang, bang. I swear I heard at least five or six shots," Peggy Snow said.

This is the fourth shooting in Antioch this week. On Wednesday, a man was shot on Delta Fair Boulevard. And on Thursday, there were two shootings. A woman was shot while she was sleeping in her bed. Suspects fired into the woman's home in the 1100 block of West Fifth Street around 4 a.m. The bullets pierced the window and the front door. Another woman was shot in the leg while she was in front of her apartment building.
