As promised, activists on Wednesday began an effort to recall San Jose city councilwoman Madison Nguyen over her role in the naming of the Little Saigon neighborhood.

According to our media partner the San Jose Mercury News, the Recall Madison Nguyen Committee served her with papers Wednesday. This is the first step toward getting a recall measure on the November ballot.

The signatures still have to be verified.

Nguyen came under fire when she opposed naming a retail area in her district Little Saigon. Supporters wanted that name because it symbolizes opposition to the communist government in Vietnam.
