The FBI is now investigating whether Oakland's city administrator tipped off a relative about a big police gang crackdown.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Deborah Edgerly phoned her nephew to warn him to stay away from suspected gang members that police were targeting for arrest.

Unnammed sources tell the Chronicle that Edgerly's nephew admitted that his aunt called him about the operation... And police say they recorded her nephew calling the alleged gang leader reportedly tipping him that cops were "on their way." He was recorded saying his information "comes from the top."

During that operation police arrested 56 alleged gang members on gun and drug charges.
