A big rig attempting to make a U-turn became stuck and spilled its cargo around 3:15 a.m., California Highway Patrol Officer Robert Haven said.
All southbound lanes were blocked and traffic was diverted around the crash onto state Highway 1 after the Golden Gate Bridge toll plaza, Haven said.
Northbound Highway 101 was closed from Marina Boulevard to state Highway 1, and drivers heading north onto the bridge were directed to enter at Highway 1, according to the CHP.
A Sig-alert issued around 3:30 a.m. was canceled around 6 a.m., CHP Officer A. Paulson said.
Traffic on the Golden Gate Bridge was moving at regular speeds as lanes were cleared, according to bridge officials.
