Twenty-eight-year-old Alfredo Guadalupe Ortiz was convicted Friday of assaulting his girlfriend. He was ordered to be held, without bail, in a San Mateo County jail until his sentencing hearing. However, a clerical error on his paperwork allowed Ortiz's family to post $25,000 bail Friday night.
He has now vanished and investigators say his family is refusing to cooperate with police.
