Delmont Blakeney was reportedly trying to free a cargo container off his vessel when it broke free and knocked him into a rail, throwing him overboard just before 11 p.m.
Crewmembers threw Blakeney a lifesaver but he lost consciousness, Shay said.
He was reportedly pulled to shore, given CPR and transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
