The Silicon Valley Education Foundation will host a panel of education experts and public officials Thursday at a forum in Sunnyvale to address the region's dropout rate and its social impacts.

The luncheon, called "High School Dropouts: The Valley's No. 1 Education and Economic Problem," will feature a panel comprised of local school administrators, public officials and education experts in the interest of identifying solutions to the causes and effects of high school dropouts.

The foundation, which was conceived to bring private sector assistance to local public education, states that the entire community is affected when students drop out of school, through costs to the state's welfare, prison and health care systems.
