The U.S. Coast Guard rescued a 40-year-old woman Saturday afternoon who fell off a cliff onto the beach near Fort Funston in San Francisco this morning, a spokesman said.

She was rescued at about 1:30 p.m. The woman was in stable condition, but she did sustain some injuries and was being transported to a hospital, spokesman Kevin Neff said.

The Coast Guard responded after getting a request for assistance from the North County Fire Department at about 12:10 p.m. The fire department could not reach the woman due to the remoteness of the area where she fell.

An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Station San Francisco responded to the rugged area south of Ocean Beach.
