Now major players in the field have launched a website in response to the public outrage. The site promises to put consumers in touch with customer service personnel who can actually negotiate.
"A new site called HelpWithMyCredit.org which is specifically designed to help some of these cardholders manage their credit and develop payment plans as well," says Beth Mills, from the California Bankers Association.
