Shrimp prices expected to stabilize despite oil spill

Shrimp prices have increased about ten percent since the oil spill in the Gulf, but a Fisherman's Wharf wholesaler says prices should stabilize when the Texas shrimping season opens next month.

The spill coincided with the start of the gulf shrimping season and a federal agency Tuesday tripled the amount of shrimp beds now off limits.

Wholesalers say they still have plenty of frozen shrimp and many restaurants rely on cheaper shrimp from Southeast Asia.
