Bank of America saves SF Italian heritage parade

SAN FRANCISCO

Bank of America presented parade officials with a $25,000 check Thursday.

Officials say if the bank did not come forward, the parade may not have happened. They say it is also fitting that Bank of America was the business that decided they could help.

"A.P Gianinni founded the Bank of America as the Bank of Italy on Columbus Avenue. His roots where here in North Beach and in a sense, he never left North beach," SF Columbus Day Celebration spokesperson Donald Casper said.

San Francisco's first Italian heritage parade took place in 1869, which makes it the oldest Italian-American civic event in the country.

The parade takes place on Oct. 10, the Sunday before Columbus Day.
