The fire was reported about 3:05 p.m. in the area of Mt. Pleasant and Clayton roads, Rangel said.
The blaze threatened at least two homes at the top of the hill and firefighters evacuated the residents of those homes, he said.
No injuries were reported.
Cal Fire assisted with three planes, Rangel said.
