Equipment problem delays bridge tower construction

An equipment problem is forcing crews to delay hoisting the second tower of the new eastern span of the Bay Bridge into place.

The work was supposed to begin Thursday morning. Instead, it's being pushed back to next week.

A computer rendering shows how the four sections of the tower will be lifted 30 stories into the air and then lowered and bolted into place.

The pieces are 107-feet tall. Each piece weighs just over a million pounds.

Caltrans is warning drivers not to be distracted by the work.
