Woman arrested for attacking passengers at SFO

SAN FRANCISCO

Witnesses told police that at around 7:45 a.m., Los Angeles resident Angela Kay West grabbed a dustpan with a long handle from a custodian's cart and started swinging it at customers in the Mezzanine Level Food Court in Terminal 3, according to an investigating detective from the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office. One customer picked up a chair in alleged self-defense, and West, who is 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs 160 pounds, swung and struck the chair as many as 10 times. San Francisco police officers on airport patrol responded to the disturbance and confronted West, who reportedly ran to a corner booth, grabbed a bottle and threatened to throw it at the officers. West put the bottle down when police ordered her to do so, but when they tried to take her into custody, she resisted, according to the sheriff's office. An officer suffered a minor injury during the confrontation and West was eventually taken into custody. She was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and battery on a peace officer and was taken to a mental health facility at Mills Peninsula Hospital.
