The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission plans to cut down the 100-foot tree Monday to make room for a pipeline which would transport water from the Hetch Hetchy reservoir to the Bay Area.
Neighbors are planning to gather in front of the tree early Monday morning to prevent crews from cutting it down. They say there are alternatives to installing the pipe without killing the tree.
