Deshon Marman, 20, says he feels sorry for all those inconvenienced by the disruption the incident caused. He says he is trying hard to be a role model to young kids in the Bayview District, where he grew up.
"I really want to apologize to the passengers of Flight 488, you know; I never had any intentions of interrupting the flight," Marman said.
Marman believes the crew on the flight overreacted to his comfortable traveling attire -- a windbreaker and pajama bottoms. The gate agent told him to pull up his pants as she took his boarding pass.
The airline told ABC7 his "pants were below his knees, exposing his underwear."
Marman refutes that claim.
"My pants were actually not below my knees or my buttocks, you know, they were slightly below my waist," he said. "As I took my seat, I pulled up my pajama bottoms and I felt everything was fine."
But it did not end there. Marmon says a flight attendant told him to leave his seat and then the captain wanted his boarding pass.
Marman says he refused to deplane, saying he was a paying passenger.
"I said, 'I'm like everybody else on this plane, I'm human,' the pilot said, 'No, you're not, you're not like everybody else,'" Marman said. "I don't know what he meant, only the man who said it knows what he meant."
The captain made a citizen's arrest and told police Marman was trespassing on his plane.
"I don't see how they can book me on trespassing when I'm a paying customer," Marman said.
Marman was arrested and taken to the Redwood City jail. His mother bailed him out Thursday night.
Marman says he felt like he was attacked and harassed without reason.
"I feel like if it was a rapper or superstar walking on the airplane hanging and sagging his pants, they would want his autograph; they wouldn't tell him, 'Hey would you pull up your pants, please,'" Marman said.
Marman says he has never had problems with US Airways before but does not think he will fly with them again.
"I don't think they would want me to fly," he said.
US Airways says Marman, "ignored repeated requests to follow flight crew instructions."
Marman says he will be flying back to University of New Mexico for summer football camp.
The school issued a written statement saying, "We plan to support Deshon and we plan to help him move forward." Marman is attending school there on a full football scholarship.
