The incident happened around 10:30 a.m. as the pilot was heading to another airport in the Bay Area, Blackmon said.
The pilot was uninjured but the plane sustained major front-end damage, Blackmon said. No one else was aboard, he said.
"He tried to glide back to the airport but came up short and landed in a vineyard south of the airport," Blackmon said.
